Abstract
The study points out at the relevance of social activity and social responsibility for the manysided development of personality. Social activity is defined as an intentional transforming activity of social relevance which helps a positive change of objective reality in the direction of a further social progress. Starting from Marx’s definition of man on the basis of his active substance, of his practical — transforming relation to ithe surrounding reality the authoress extrapolates this idea to the socialist personality as a new quality in the process of development and emancipation of man’s intrinsic powers and she sees in social activity its elementary ontological determination. She emphasizes the need of a harmonic connection of various kinds of activities and points out the problem of social responsibility. She discloses the possible causes (both subjective and objective ones) of the insufficient grade of the development of social activity in the contemporary stage of building-up the socialist society and goes in search of its rectification and further development.
