Abstract

The paper is a polemic against both the conception of neoposFtivists that the issue of the existence of matter, independent of consciousness is a pseudoproblem as well as the existencialists who deny to think of being and existence isolated from Man. Contrary to conceptions like these the author argues that the material world had existed long before consciousness and cognition appeared on our planet and that new, unknown facts and laws have been coming up in the process of scientific cognition. The presupposition of the objective existence of matter is not only the basis for philosophic materialism but also a fruitful methodologic starting point for knowledge and transformation of the world.
