Abstract
Sufism occupies an important position in the context of islamic culture. In islamic mysticism the ideal of the Perfect Man was of great importance. The notion was defined ontologically, epistemologically as well as ethically by Ibn al-‘Arabī, ‘Abd al-Karīm al-Djīlī and first of all by an outstanding Persian poet Djaläl al-Dīn Rūmī. The Perfection is reached through the knowledge of God representing the Only, Absolute Being and through union with this Being. The ultimate knowledge cannot be attained neither without abiding by moral norms, nor without selfknowledge.
