The Personality and Work of K. Marx in the Publications of the Pioneers of Socialism in Slovakia
Abstract
One of the first texts in Slovakia dealing with the Life and work of K. Marx was the paper of K. Hanzlíček which was written on the 16th anniversary of Marx’s death. Hanzlíček comprehended that Marx outlined the substance of the materialist conception of history in one of his first economic works — in the foreword to the book „A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy — and anticipated in this work his main idea of Capital. Fourteeen years later the most comprehensive work on the life and work of K. Marx a booklet of some fifty pages „K. Marx — his Life and Work“ by Borek — was published in Bratislava. Borek made an attempt at evaluating all components of Marx’s scientific and political activity in the historical context. He aimed at finding links between the philosophical foundations of Marxism and the revolutionary working movement and formulated basic principles of Marxist philosophy as the dialectical philosophy of practice.
