Abstract
It seems at first sight that the Slovak political thinking of the last three decades of the 19th century was marked by passivity. The author first briefly defines the latter and then gives an analysis of Štefanovič’s conception of civic-national activities articulated by Štefanovič on the background of his social and ethical critiques and expressed in his journal articles on politics.
