Abstract
The author discloses the historical character of the progress of freedom and introduces the factors that condition the freedom of personality and are the moving force in the process of the increase of freedom of society with respect to nature, to economic and social conditions. Freedom is a product of historical development and in a class society it has a class character. The author pays a special attention to the analysis of the Marxist-Leninist conception of inner freedom of personality. He criticizes the existential conception of freedom which takes freedom as freedom of the individual in the choice of oneself. Sartre, Jaspers and others understand freedom of personality as the freedom from society. The author criticizes the subjective-irrationalist character of the existentialist conception of inner freedom of personality and starting from the classics of Marxism-Leninism he explains the real criteria of inner freedom of personality. The real realm of freedom comes only with the victory of communism and man can be free only in a society where there is a complete social equality of all its members, because outside such a society man cannot harmoniously develop his creative capacities and command the laws of nature, history and thinking.
