In a Defence of Epistemology
Abstract
In the firs part of the paper the author tries to show, that the contemporary diffusion of philosophical subjects by contemporary Slovak philosophers (regarding epistemolgy) goes back to marxism, which is a legitimate constitutive part of the continental epstemic tradition. She examnines the problematic of so called "standard analysis of knoweldge" (beliefs, truth, justification) on the background of the difference between the continental and Anglo-Saxon epistemological traditions. She presents Gettier's counterexamples against the classical definition of knowledge and offers a basic typology of the epistemological theories. She is defending the theory of knowledge as a normative discipline, which makes the answer to the question "What is it to know?" possible.
