Abstract

The paper aims at a historical-philosophical examination of the relationship between Rousseau's and Kant's philosophies of state and law. It describes Rousseau's long wav from his first treatise up to his Social contract and his searching for the real grounds of political societies and law. Attention is paid to Kant's reception of the problematic of the social contract, who hoped to have stripped Rousseau's conception of its ambiguities. In conclusion the paper shows the transformation of the concept of social contract in Kant's philosophical-critical analysis into an idea of reason.
