Abstract
The article is devoted to the question of the formation of humanistic knowledge, which cannot be replaced by an apology for the social role of the humanities, or by promoting the development of digital humanities. The key hermeneutic starting point in this regard is that humanistic knowledge, as Charles Taylor and Hans-Georg Gadamer state, is necessarily value-characterized, which from a hermeneutic perspective means that it forms an understanding of meaning in such a way that something gains or loses value for us. This value characteristic of humanistic knowledge becomes even more apparent when considering Aristotle’s discussion of the dianoetic virtues in the Nicomachean Ethics, which also expresses a critique of Socrates’ identification of virtue with episteme in Plato’s dialogue Protagoras. On this basis, the possibility of constituting humanistic knowledge is outlined – one that preserves and at the same time redefines its critical theoretical and practical relevance.
