Abstrakt

The paper focuses mainly on the early writings of I. Hrušovský, in which his concept of scientific knowledge embodied both philosophical and scientific knowledge of sciences and humanities. From this conception arose following misunderstandings: a) concerning his conception of philosophy, b) concerning the effects of external factors on the development of philosophy and sciences. Furthermore, the different developmental dynamics of these two spheres was not taken into account. The second part of the paper examines Hrušovský's views on the development of scientific theories. Hrušovský wobbled between its continualistic and discontinualistic understanding, preffering the latter.

The role of invention in the development of science, as understood by Hrušovský, is described as well.
