Abstract

The author's stress is on topicality of I. Hrušovský's views on art in our times, when the discussions on cognitive competencies of art, as well as on its ethical influence are being reopened. She focuses especially on on the principial attitude of the philosopher in the arguments concerning the so called "gnoseologization" of art, in which he criticized this tendency supported by the contemporary official ideology. On her view we should make a difference between Hrušovský's rejecting the explanation of art in terms of a simplifying conception of cognition (connected with the idea of a mechanistic reflexion), and the tendencies to render the ait (and the aesthetics) idological or "instrumentalist", and his recognition of specific cognitive moments of (certain kinds) of art. The author shows somewhat contradictory character of Hrušovský's conception of art, appreciating at the same time his recognition of the work of art's capacity to form and create individual and social reality.
