Abstrakt

It was Parmenides in his PERI FYSEÓS, who recognized for the first time that the being can be grasped only by the most universal sentences. For him being is a totality; it is a proportionally constituted whole consisting of the absolute and the relative, the actual and the potential, of the material and the ideal. The most important contribution of his ontology is his conclusion, that it is the being, that can exist; this was at the same time a criticism of all alternative philosophical conceptions deriving from the "paradoxical existence of nonbeing".
