Abstrakt

The paper tries to show the basic differences in understanding and applying the concepts of space and time by I. Newton and G. W. Leibniz as documented by Leibniz's correspondence with Clarke. In its second part the background and the reasons of the dispute are briefly outlined. The third part is devoted to a closer examination of the concept of space. Parts 4 and 5 present the two positions as contained in the correspondence. The sixth part summarizes the whole dispute and its outcomes.
