Abstrakt

In the paper attention is paid to one of the most important Slovak scientists who lived abroad and achieved high scientific honours there.

The author analyzes Stodola’s book on the worldview problems of an engineer in which he took a stand not only to various discoveries in natural science and to ideological streams of the day but also to questions of the relation of technology and society and to some pesimistic conceptions of this relation. He pointed to maladies of capitalism and cherished deep emotions to wards representatives of lower social classes.
